RightLight Programme

The Electricity Commission has launched an information programme providing residential, commercial and industrial consumers with independent advice and information about energy efficient lighting.

The programme is addressing the information barriers to the uptake of energy efficient lighting in New Zealand which were identified in a report published by the Commission in November 2008.

The Electricity Commission projects an additional 100 GWh of savings per annum from this information programme, achievable after 3 years, based on a conservative additional conversion of 5% of inefficient lamps to more efficient alternatives for each year of the programme. The programme will produce savings at a cost of less than 1c per kW/h which, when compared to the long run marginal cost of new generation, makes a compelling economic case for the programme.
