Definition of terms and explanation of charges

Low User: A low user consumes less than 8,000 kWh per year.
Standard User: A standard user consumes a minimum of 8,000 kWh of electricity per year.

Pricing plans are affected by the metering type and set-up you have at home:
  • Uncontrolled Pricing: All power is available 24 hours a day.
  • All Inclusive Pricing: Power is available 24 hours a day. However, your network company has the ability to turn off your hot water cylinder for part of the day.
  • Controlled Pricing: A 2nd meter (Typically for hot water) can be controlled by the network for up to 5 hours a day, is part of a combination meter set up.
  • Night Pricing: A 2nd meter (Typically for hot water) can be controlled but the network for up to 16 hours a day.
The region you live in affects the price you pay:
  • Network Company: Your network company controls the physical lines in your area and sets their own pricing structure which we show separately on your bill (This pricing can be found on the networks website).
  • Cost of Supply: The cost of generating and supplying electricity to your home also varies depending on where you live.
Additional Charges:
Electricity Commission Levy: A separate line item in addition to the cost per kWh. The Electricity commission is the government organisation responsible for regulating New Zealand’s electricity industry.
